Vancouver Pavilion Member Spotlight: Miguel Martins Pereirinha,Immigration Lawyer & Partner of Slayen Immigration Law
Born and raised in East Vancouver, Miguel Martins Pereirinha grew up in a traditional Portuguese household after his parents immigrated to Canada from Portugal. His childhood was filled with soccer, little league, and Canucks games with his dad. Miguel later moved to England to attend law school, immersing himself in campus life through sports and student unions. Studying in a country rich with legal history and tradition offered a perspective into how different parts of the world approach law and advocacy.
After law school, Miguel returned to Vancouver and began his career working with a Member of Parliament. There, he was introduced to public-facing advocacy, helping individuals and families navigate immigration matters, family crises, and other challenging circumstances. The experience reinforced his knack for practical problem-solving and helping people find a path forward. It eventually led him to immigration law and to meeting Joshua Slayen.
Today, Miguel is a Partner at Slayen Immigration Law, where no two days look quite the same. From helping families reunite in Canada to supporting people building careers and businesses, his work combines strategy, advocacy, and problem-solving. For Miguel, the most rewarding part is turning an overwhelming situation into a clear plan and ultimately sharing good news with clients and their families. It’s the personal impact, along with the constant opportunity to learn and solve new challenges, that continues to make the work meaningful.
Outside of the office, Miguel loves to travel, particularly throughout Europe. Portugal remains especially meaningful because of his family’s roots, but his travels have also taken him through France, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and beyond. Wherever he goes, he enjoys discovering what makes each destination unique, especially through its food.
